I am wanting to scan from my 5020 printer to the emails for the first time, web site telling me I should have a disc which came with the printer, I did not recieve one?

The "disc" message is archaic - these days installation disks to install software are generally not included with the printer (in purchase box).  Software, How-to, Troubleshooting, "things that are your printer" are all available on line in your printer's support website.

From the subject line in your thread / post:

The scan setup is not complete for this operation - the message is a reminder to first install the appropriate software to complete the task.

For example, there are instructions to download / install / use the HP Smart Application.

Note the different versions of the "Smart" software used - which one you need depends on your Operating System (unknown / "other").

Note, too, that there is currently no Linux support for this operation, though there may be a Linux style solution for particular flavors / versions of Linux OS.
