When scanning to computer screen the result is multiple fine vertical coloured lines

Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you power cycle the printer (switch off and then switch on) and ensure that you are plugged into the wall socket and not any extension plugs.
Make sure that the scanner lid is closed properly during initialization.
Are you able to copy a document successfully?
If you are still getting the same issue, then the scanner may be defective.
