Hi @RickSmile

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "cannot find scan option" issue.

If you're not able to find scan option under system preference- follow the instructions below

Add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

     Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

    Figure : AirPrint displays in the Use menu

    Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

 Make sure ' Bonjour Multifunction’ is selected under the kind column and not the generic driver.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Jay, when I deleted the printer and put it back in as AirPrint it is now showing the scanner icon but when I click the open scanner button, I get an error "An error occurred whole communicating with the scanner (-9923)"  I have even tried HP Easy Scan and it says there is an error.

@RickSmile,

Try the below steps to resolve the issue

To set a manual IP and try the steps below-

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address
--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP-
--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply
--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply
--->Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
--->then go to settings on the main ews page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min

Let me know if this helps!

Hi  Jay...I followed your instructions and got this far

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address
--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP-
--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply
--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply

At this point I typed i  the two DNS numbers but it would not let me go on until I selected manual IP numbers and Subnet mask...I asked it to do a random one and then I lost connection with the printer and could go no further. I could not go back to the main settings.

Could you check the IP on the printer and try again.

suggest manual IP settings should be selected before you enter the DNS numbers

HP Recommended

I did that a second time where I asked it to suggest manual IP numbers and that is where it cut communications with the printer. Will try again.  Thanks

This is what the screen looks like. I hit  APPLY and the printer still keeps coming up with the same error message

What is the exact error you're receiving?

Could you restart (unplug from the power source) your router, printer, and computer and plug them back in the same sequence.

I get an error "An error occurred whole communicating with the scanner (-9923)"  I have even tried HP Easy Scan and it says there is an error. I will try unplugging everything and replugging it back in and let you know.
