when I try and scan to email the following message comes up
there was an internal processing error
please retry or manually check the firmware updates
not sure how to do this

Next follow the instructions on page 42 in the User Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05580316 to setup and use Scan to Email
