Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Is it possible to remove the scan destinations which show up on my scanner when choosing the "scan" option on the scanner itself, which say "Scan to {computer name}" or "Scan for OCR/email/etc to {computer name}"? I want to just see the destinations which simply say "{computer name}", as this makes things simpler.

Example, I have a laptop called "HP650". For that device, on the scanner I will see the following scanning destinations:

HP650

Scan to HP650

Scan for OCR to HP650

Scan for Email to HP650

Scan for Fax to HP650

etc

I want to only see "HP650" as the destination, and not the others.

Hi! @dadabhai, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you would like to know how to get only scan to computer shortcut on the PC.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you installed the full feature printer software on the PC?

You can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Create scan shortcuts

To create a scan shortcut, follow these steps:

  1. Open the HP Scan Software.

  2. Click Create new scan shortcut.

  3. Enter a name for the new shortcut.

  4. Choose to create the new shortcut from current settings, or a pre-existing shortcut.

  5. Choose settings for the new scan shortcut. Click More for more settings.

  6. Click to the save icon next to the name of the new shortcut in the shortcut list to save the shortcut, or click the undo icon to undo modifications.

Modify shortcuts

To modify a scan shortcut, follow these steps:

  1. Open the HP Scan Software.

  2. Select the shortcut to be modified from the list to the left.

  3. Choose settings on the right side of the screen.

  4. Click the Save icon to the right of the shortcut name to save changes.

If you still have issues after trying the above steps try the steps recommended below.

There is a way to create the Scan Shortcut on your desktop. Try these steps :

1. Open a File Explorer

2.  C: > Program Files (x86)

3.  Program Files (x86)  >  HP

4.  HP > HP Officejet 7740

5. HP Officejet 7740 > Bin

6. Bin  > HP Scan

7. Right-Click on the HP Scan and "Create Shortcut"

You will get a prompt that "Windows can't create a shortcut here.  Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?    Select "Yes".

No you've totally misunderstood, I clearly stated I am talking about the scan destinations that show on the SCANNER itself on the LCD panel when scanning directly from the scanner to a PC.

@dadabhai, Thanks for your quick response.

I'm afraid that's not a possible option. You can disable the complete scan feature on the printer but not the byproducts of it.
