Office Jet Pro 6978

My old HP printer gave me an option to scan another page without having to open the printer software on my computer, as described in your tutorial (Scanning multiple pages to a .pdf.... )  To date, my multiple page documents have all scanned as individual documents and I cannot find a way to create a single document directly from the printer screen.  Thank you.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, you wish to scan multiple pages into one document.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

What is the operating system on PC?

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes?

Are you scanning using Automatic Document Feeder?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

For MAC:

Save multi-page documents or a collection of photos into one PDF file using the HP Easy Scan app.

  1. Search the Mac for scan, and then click HP Easy Scan in the list of results to open the app.

  2. Scan a document or photo using the app.

    • If you , continue to the next step.scanned multiple pages from the ADF

    • If you scanned from the scanner glass, load the next page or photo, and then click Scan Next Item or Add. Repeat this step until all pages or photos are scanned, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Click Send, and then click Folder.

  1. Figure: To save the scan to a folder on the Mac, click Send

Click Send to save a scan to a folder on the Mac
  2. Select PDF in the Format menu. NOTE: HP Easy Scan does not support adding multiple JPEG, PNG, or TIFF photos into a single file. You must save photos in the PDF format to save them all in one file.

  3. Click the Where menu, and then select a folder to save the scan to.

  4. Select the checkbox next to Save all items to a single file.

Select PDF format and checkbox to save into a single file
  5. Click Save.

For Windows:

Save multiple pages or several photos into one PDF file using HP Scan software. To create PDF scan files you must have Adobe Reader software installed on the computer. Go to Get Adobe Reader to install the software.

NOTE: HP Scan does not support adding multiple JPEG, PNG, or TIFF photos into a single file. You must save photos in the PDF format to save them all in one file.

  1. Check the following requirements for multi-page document or photo scanning into one PDF file:

    • To save multiple photos into one file, you must use the PDF document-related shortcuts.

    • Use a resolution setting of 300 DPI or lower.

  2. Search Windows for 'HP', click your printer model name in the results to open HP Printer Assistant, and then click Scan a Document or Phototo open HP Scan.

  3. In HP Scan, select the Save as PDF or Document to File shortcut to scan the item.

    • If you , click Save. All pages automatically save into a single file.scanned multiple pages from the ADF

    • If you scanned from the scanner glass, load the next page or photo on the glass, and then click the plus button  or  in the HP Scan preview window to scan the next item. Repeat this step until all pages or photos are scanned, and then click Save.

  4. Confirm that PDF is selected in the Save as type menu, change the file name and the folder you want to save the scan to, and then click Save.

Let me know how this goes,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers!

What a disappointment! My old printer, HP 6830, was able to scan multiple pages into a single .pdf document without having to jump through hoops.  It asked on the screen "Do you have another page to scan?" Click yes or no.  Much simpler! Had I known i would have to go through the process you describe, I would not have purchased this model.  Thank you for your help.
