When I scan a photo, the colours are of an inferior quality to the original.  I cannot find any setting adjustment that allows me to change this.

Hi and thank you for your reply.  I bought the printer/scanner in January of this year.  Up to recently, it has only been used for scanning/printing general documents.  It is only recently that I have been scanning photographs and notice the inferior colour compared with the original.

I have run HP Print and Scan Doctor and everything resulted as correct, however, when I printed the scan result, it printed in greyscale.  I went into Devices and Printers, but when I pressed preferences, I was confronte with an error.  I also ran HP Scan and Capture and it still printed in greyscale.

Thanks for the reply and trying the steps suggested.

If the option to change the printer settings to color from grayscale is disabled. Recommend you uninstall the printer software by following the procedure mentioned below and install the latest full feature software meant for your printer. The procedure might look lengthy and complicated but will fix the issue you are facing.

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped.

Good morning,

All done, everything great, EXCEPT, colour inferior to original.  😞

 Hi again,

I have just run Print and Scan Doctor.  I lowered the setting in Midtone to -15 and the result was almost perfect.

Question:  P & SD doesn't allow me to save that setting, it would mean that I have to run P & SD every time I did a scan to correct the scan.  Is there a way to save the settings?

Cheers,

Alan

Thanks for the reply and glad to hear that you were able to get the desired result using HP Print and Scan doctor.

You would need to check if the option to save the settings is available in the application you are using to print.

Alternately, open devices and printers from the control panel

Right-click on your printer listed in devices and printers and select printer properties.

You have the option to change the color management. You can try to change the settings there and let me know if it worked for you.

Keep me posted.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply.  I have tried all your suggestions without success.  The only app that allows me to change the depth of colour is P & S Dr, but it won't allow me me to save the changes.  Not to worry, at least I now know how to rectify my problem and it is not too much trouble.

Unless you can suggest anything more, I would like to thank you for your time and effort, you have been a valued help.

Take care,

Alan
