I have tried to load a new driver but after each attempt, it still shows as needing the same update again. Meanwhile, it takes over a minute to scan a single page and the pdf file is 45MB for just 2 pages! I have tried both HP SmartScan and EasyScan. The latter seems to work but why doesn't Smart Scan? Does anyone know a cure for this, please?

@Naithon, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I am assuming that you've issues with scanning from the HP Smart App. If the page your scanning is rather intricate, meaning it has a lot of text and photos on it, then the speed sounds about accurate from what you're describing. If you're just scanning a page of black text though, with no extra bells and whistles that does seem a bit odd.

With regards to the size of the documents, I'd recommend you check the scan resolution which will help you isolate the issue.

Additionally, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Refer to the document HP Printers - How to Scan (Mac) for help.

Thanks, TEJ1602.

The pages that I am scanning are of various types - printed text, black and white graphs, black and white photos and colour pages. To give you an idea, I reduced the dpi but the files still amounted to almost 1GB for 31 pages. Using another scanner, they came to 11.7GB. Something is not right!

Yes, this was using the HP Smart App.

As mentioned in my first post, updating the firmware has been impossible - every time I try do so, I download it OK and then install it. After doing this, I check the update website again and it still shows as needing to be installed!

For further assistance, I'd like to know the following-

What is the resolution that you're using to scan?

What happens when you scan documents that have only text and no graphics?

Try scanning from a different device only text to see if it is the computer or the printer issue.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi TEJ1602,

I have tried to do as you ask and if I use a resolution of 75 dpi, a plain text, single page is 860kb. If I use 600 dpi, it is 3.6MB which seems an awful lot.

I also scanned from my iPhone using the Smart app. I could not see what resolution it uses or how to change it but the file size was the same as the 75 dpi image using my MacBook.

I hope this helps!

Many thanks.
