HP Deskjet 3545
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP All in one 3545, upgraded it's firmware automatically recently and ever since, the scan function isn't working. Scan starts and hangs mid way. No images are being transferred back to the computer or mobile. Same issue happens when using HP Smart android APP, so I can say for sure that it's not an OS software issue. Please help fix the issue or help me downgrade the firmware

Welcome to the HP support community.

Check the scanner bar functionality: partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass.

Meanwhile:-

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello HP support - I am having the same issue since the printer automatically upgraded the firmware last week. Whenever I click on the 'save' button in HP scan utility, it freezes and I haven't been able to save a single scanned image since the last firmware upgrade. I have tried the solution given here but that has not helped. Even scan to computer function behaves in the same manner. Please can you help on resolve this and also advise on how to disable automatic firmware upgrades. Thanks

Welcome to the HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install the printer full feature driver:

Click here to download the driver.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply. I tried all these steps, it worked for the first time after freshly installing the software and driver however back to the same issue afterwards. It's clear that the firmware upgrade has caused this problem as it was working well till the printer upgraded itself. Please let me know how I can restore the older version of the firmware or issue a patch release urgently to fix this problem. Thanks

Thank you for your response. I followed the steps however HP website identified my product (printer) to be out of manufacturer warranty. None of the support options available for my product allow me to create a case. I only get an option to talk to a virtual agent who cannot assist.

This product (even with warranty expired status) and the associated software was working satisfactorily until the automatic firmware upgrade took place. None of the workarounds you suggested seem to be resolving the issue. And I do not have an option to raise a case with the support because the product is outside standard warranty. How do you suggest I take this forward?

Many thanks.
