Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

M479FDW
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer: LaserJet Pro HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw

Firmware Version: CLRWTRXXXN002.2014A.00

Drivers: 48.4.4588

Problem: In short. Scan to Computer does not work when I use the ADF when initiated from the printer.

Works:

  1. Via the Printer using the Flatbed, scan to computer, select my computer. Scan is received on my computer. Works.
  2. Via the HP Scan app on laptop using the Flatbled and scan. Scan is received on my computer. Works.
  3. Via the HP Scan app on laptop using the ADF (single or both sides) and scan (placing documents first). Scan is received on my computer. Works.

Does NOT Work.

  1. Via the Printer using the ADF, scan to computer, select my computer and scan. Printer states file sent to my computer successfully. Go to my computer, no file. No file explorer window popup. FAIL.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I have used the TCP/IP connection options. I have used the WSD connection option. Rebooted laptop may times along the way.

Via HP Scan, Source is set to Document Feeder if loaded.

No matter what I try, via the printer using the ADF, I cannot get Scan to Computer to work.

As no-one from HP is replying to this topic, I thought I would help anyone who has googled this problem, as I did, and found this post.

I have exactly the same problem, and could not have described it better than the OP. I called HP directly, who are apparently aware of the issue. They are blaming a recent Microsoft security update. They have no timetable for a resolution. It seems to me that HP are content to blame Microsoft, and Microsoft are saying it is up to HP to fix an issue with their printer. In the meantime, the customer is caught in the middle.

The workaround is of course as the OP described: use the HP App on the desktop/laptop and scanning via ADF works. Not ideal.
