Thank you for posting on HP Forums. I'd like to help.

Removing the existing Scanner Application and then installing HP Easy Scan may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Open Finder, click Applications.

2.) Delete the existing HP scanner applications by moving it to trash.

3.) Download and install HP Easy Scan from here

If in case HP Easy Scan application fails, try using Image capture to scan.

Here is how to do it:

1.) On your Mac, open Finder

2.) Click Applications and open Image Capture

3.) Select your printer name under Devices.

Let me know how it goes!

I have spent ages in research before finally uninstalling the driver and installing an updated driver - which does not seem to be there because the original is still present !? - before seeing your recommendation.  It works !!!

Whats more the "Image Capture" icon was in my Applications all the time and I have never used it.

Thanks so much.

By the way, HP Easy Scan also works.
