HP Photosmart C4100

Hi, I have been trying to scan an A4 document to a memory stick but the scans are too much to the right missing off some of the wording. I have tried everything by making changes in the copy menu but I also don't know what the option Margin Shift does and whether or not it should be on or off and can find no mention of this option anywhere including within the manual?  I never did have this problem over the years I have had the printer/scanner and don't know why it has started to do this? I'm not very good with PC's or Printers etc or the jargon that goes with it. So I would appreciate any basic help you could give me. Thank you.

Not sure, though were it me, I'd try scanning to the computer instead to see if there is any difference.

Scanning and Copy provide two separate sets of settings.

What I can see / verify:

Copy Defaults includes option > Binding Margin / Margin Shift / Margin

The exact name of the feature varies by printer.

I do not see a Binding Margin in Scan options on my printer - cannot speak for what you have on yours...

Binding Margin / Margin Shift increases the binding side margin (left side in "left to right" reading languages).

Think of Margin Shift (binding) similar the "gutter" settings used in Word and in Booklet settings to shift the content away from the "binding" side of the book - a larger left margin, for example, makes it easier to see the text / content nearest the bound edge.

What else?

From what I have read, "alignment" doesn't usually help - the printer is perhaps not even aware of the problem.  Nonetheless, if you have not done so, consider running the alignment setup.

'Printer alignment failed' Error Message Displays on the Product

Ignore the name of the document - the steps include how to run the alignment...

Will that work?

Not idea - What I know about printers introduced in 2006 fits inside a thimble.

Printer MIGHT just be getting closer to "end of days".  It happens.

Thank you for getting back to me with your advice. Thanks to you, I now understand the Margin Shift aspect.
