Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Officejet Pro 8715
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Nothing has changed on my pc but from today, I logged into my HP Smart window (I'm on the ink-ready plan), clicked on Scan and it scans the first page and then produces an error message that I have never seen before and the window then freezes. The error message is "There was a problem loading your smart task', please try again. There are two options,  1.Try Again (produces the same message) and 2. Cancel (which completely hangs the window). Can anyone help please?

If you are having problems with the HP Smart app the new feature Smart Tasks

A new version of HP Smart has been released and uploaded to the Microsoft Store.

This version has fixes in for Smart Task problems.

To update the App

On the taskbar, select the Microsoft Store icon.
If you don't see the Microsoft Store icon on the taskbar, it might have been unpinned. To pin it, select the Start button, type Microsoft Store, select Microsoft Store , then choose More > Pin to taskbar .
Select More > Downloads and updates, and choose the Get updates button.

I gave up. Installed the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows. That seems to work ok.

Have you gotten a response yet? I saw you posted this a couple of days ago. Hopefully, we find one soon!

Thank you for your reply - I did go through the installation of HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows on Friday, but unfortunately the problem still remains.

Same issue.  I hope they fix this soon!  I have loved this printer but if this is the end, I am going to be very disappointed.

Having looked into what 'smart tasks' are, I found it was related to the HP App! I downloaded this and was able to scan directly from the printer using the App on my phone - the App also offers the option to email the scanned document so thankfully I have found an interim solution.

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my enquiry.

Same issue.  Deleting device, driver, and HP Smart software.  Reinstalled them.  Same error.
