HP OfficeJet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Printer on/off switch does not work.  Touch screen shows constant HP logo and is unresponsive to touch.

I've tried the disconnect power cord, cable, etc. procedure but no progress.  Printer worked fine recently and malfunctioned simply while NOT being used. ????

Any suggestions - thanks.

@Ed_1234 Lets start with power reset as per HP standards, here's how we recommend doing it:

  • Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    • NOTE:
    • HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, please upgrade the printer firmware:

My printer is the HP Office Jet Pro 8610 all in one.

I've tried all of the suggestions from online support such as the unplug of the power, using a dedicated wall outlet, uninstall/reinstall of driver software, etc.  Malfunction occurred when printer was not being used.

The HP logo is frozen on the touch screen AND the power off button does not enable turning off the printer.  Only by unplugging the printer does the power turn off.

Questions:  Can the touch screen on this model be replaced?  If so, where can I purchase a touch screen for this model.

Does the touch screen control the on - off switch?  Should I replace the on-off switch?  If so, where to purchase.

BTW, just purchased all new ink cartridges!!!

Please do not send prepositioned computer messages.

Thank you.

@Ed_1234 If none of the steps are working, this could be a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Unfortunately, customer support has been of no help whatsoever.  Simple questions are directed back into the HP loop that I've seen several times.

For example, 'Can the touch screen be replaced since mine quit working?'  If so, how to remove the touch screen.

I never can receive a straight forward answer.  This HP printer is an example of what is called planned obsolescence.  I used it very little and after warranty expired it just died.  Too bad.  Also, I just purchased a new set of ink cartridges but guess what, they will not work on any other HP printers !!!!!!
