Unable EMAILa scan with the new HP Smart app

I am unable to send an email with the new HP Smart app on an ENVY 5540.  The scan is fine, but after I go to email, enter the email address and topic  and press the blue arrow nothing gets sent out.

Why scan-to-email works - and why it might not work as expected - has much to do with

• the Operating System and version you are running,
• Whether you have installed the Full Feature Software on the computer - although not mandatory in every case, the "feature" software provides some "backbone" to the HP Smart app that runs on Windows.
• how and whether the printer supports the email profile you are using.  For example, gmail must be set without two-step verification OR you must be using an app-password (also set up in gmail),
• whether you have an installed email program / software on your computer (really important), w
• whether you have enabled and set up web services.
