@Jann3

I would like to help

Are you able to make photocopies?

If photocopies work fine, then I suggest you download and run the HP Print And Scan Doctor from this Link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

Keep me posted how it goes

No, it did not help to unplug printer, run the Print Doctor, restart my computer, restart my printer, or install HP OJ8600_1316 update. When I select Scan from my printer it indicates on the screen:

To scan to computer, make sure the featured is enabled.....go to HP software...

I go to the HP Printer software and I select Manage Scan To Computer - it indicates Scan to computer is currently unavailable. It then indicates to restart printer, which I do and I continuously get the same errors.

I even selected Disable Scan feature and then Enable Scan feature and I still get the same error as indicated above.

Sometimes, I can print from my computer but other times I get garbled feed on paper...

@Jann3 Here's what you need to do, to fix this once and for all:

  • Press "Windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services - Go to "Print spooler" - Right-click and "Stop" the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type "spool" and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, unplug the USB cable from the printer (if present).
  • Go to Control panel - Programs and feature - Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel - Devices and printer - Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type - "c:/programdata" - Go to the Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.

Then, use this link to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it: click here to download.

It worked and I was able to scan a document.  When I tried scanning the 2nd document on page 4, it came back with the same error I was getting before:  To scan to computer, make sure the feature is enabled.

I went to the printer software and it indicated the Scan to Computer is Enabled

On the printer I got all the way through the Scan options and then it attempted to scan and came back with the error msg.

@Jann3 This looks like a touch nut to crack, but crack this I shall! 😉 here's what we need to do, to get this sorted, completely:

Let's start with what we call an RPC reset using the below steps:

  • Restart the router,
  • Then the printer,
  • And then, the computer in the same sequence,
  • Wait until all connections are intact (WiFi is reconnected)

Once done, follow the steps from the below screenshot to restore the printer network settings:

then, please ensure the printer is reconnected to the WiFi and ensure it works by re-installing the software using the steps from my earlier post: click here to be re-directed to the last post.

And try scanning again, it should work.
