Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Earlier today, this printer mysteriously went offline. I repowered the device and now the printer cannot see network computers (or shared directories) when scanning at the printer (yet it prints OK). I have tried changing the wireless connection to Ethernet. All of the network parameters are correct. I cannot go into many of the network options as they are showing as 'locked by the person who set up the printer', which is me (and is nonsense). There seems to be plenty of apparent 'fixes' to unlock but the highest contender of 'pressing the Back button 4 times' is not an option, as the Back button only displays after pressing the ? button and the Back button can only be pressed once (to return to the Home page.

The printer cannot also see my network share folder (neither can the Test option in HP Smart) yet the network share name is correct and visible from all other computers on the subnet). I need to unlock this printer *and* find the fabled Support Menu to factory reset the printer.

Can someone save this printer from the nearest skip?

NB: I have tried the printer/scanner doctor app (and HP Smart) with no success. It seems to scan fine from the app. That is not what I need.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know how to reset the printer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

We need to perform a semi-full reset to reset the printer. However, as the steps to perform a semi-full reset are confidential and specific to your printer. I will be sending you a private message please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
