Scan image from ADF and on flatbed has inch-wide vertical line down the page, close to the middle. I have cleaned the scanner glass several times and uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

 

Can you power off and ensure the scan lid is closed and then power on again?

 

Do a scan as well as a copy job.  If the results are similar (with a vertical line), the scanner may be defective.

Does seem that the scanner is defective.  Do contact HP for a replacement.

On my 7740 I get a skinny black vertical stripe on auto-feed scans but scans on the bed are ok (clean).  I tried cleaning, restarting.  No change.
