can't scan with adf on hp 6978 using acrobat pro dc 2015

HP Recommended
hp officejet pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

win 10 pro

new printer.  will copy on both sides using adf from printer panel.  will scan double side from ADF using hp sw.  hp scan doctor sw says everything is fine.

using WIA printer over network.

image1.jpg

in acrobat i say scan both sides and it does not use the ADF, it uses flatbed.  data transfer is native, interface is hidden.  if i switch to native interface i can specify scan source, but it only scans 1 side.  acrobat says it has no updates.

please help.    my previous epson workforce did this effortlessly, but it died and epson removed the 2 sided option.

the hp 6978 was the only non-huge printer i could find with 2 sided automatic scanning.

Please lower resolution (300dpi or under), this may help. You screenshot shows 600dpi.

Regards.

Ok, but why so low? I believe that scanner is capable of more than 600dpi.

Yes, but anything over 300dpi you have to use directly from the glass/flatbed, not from ADF.  Specially when more than 1 page.

I have to ask why? 300 is really too low, but that's all the hp scan sw will do with the adf. Why the diff, all the adf does is move the paper. The scanner is still under the glass. I just did 1200dpi on the flatbed using Acrobat. My previous printer went to 2400 dpi using an adf. This seems like a driver limitation.

Sorry to jump in here, but Try NAPS2 software...

Make searchable PDFs scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/

NAPS2 also allows you to:

  1. Maximize and resize the scanning screen on your computer.
  2. Scan over 300 ppi/dpi from the Glass or ADF.
  3. Save multiple pages (over 300 ppi/dpi) to one PDF file.
  4. Provide scan resolutions of 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, 600, 800, 1200 dpi.

Let us know.

Yes i use Acrobat. But more, i always put docs in adf which somehow limits scan to 300dpi when scanner is actually 1200. Inexplicable.

With the hp scan sw it only goes up to 300 dpi with adf. I installed from the web so it is current sw.
