I have a jpeg of the scanner problem which I need to send to someone which illustrates the problem of just printing coloured vertical lines right across the whole A4 sheet. Something is seriously wrong with it and I wondered if someone has come across anything similar.

The printer model: HP Envy 5640 All in One.  A scan contains hundreds of thin coloured vertical lines right across the whole of the scanned A4 document. I am using HP Print for Chrome on a chromebook. The fault appears to be with the scanner/scanner-copy as anything to do with printing from the chromebook is okay.problem scan and copy on HPEnvy 5640.jpgproblem scan and copy on HPEnvy 5640.jpg

Welcome to HP support community.

Check the scanner bar functionality: partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass.

Meanwhile:

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Let me know how it goes.

I have exactly the same issue.

Have tried un-installing/re-installing printer, deleting & updating drivers etc

I seem to be banging my head against a brick-wall.

(Think it may be time to invest in Cannon for a Reliable Product!)

@MarkP125,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.

  • What is the exact model for your printer?
  • What is the operating system you are using?
  • What is the exact issue you are facing?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!
