HP Officejet Pro 8600
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I just purchased a new iMAC and cannot get it to recognize the scanner in my multipurpose device.  It is wirelessly connected and prints fine.  I downloaded the relevant HP driver and Easy Scan.  When I do into iMAC system preferences, there is recognition of the device but not the scanner component.  On the Officejet Pro 8600, it states "No Computer Found."  Please advise.

*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.

Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password.
Click OK. The printing system resets.

Next, download and install below drivers from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=fr_FR

Finally, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and click the plus sign

Select your printer, then select the HP Officejet Pro 8600 option within the Use drop-down menu and press add.

Now check if you can scan using Printers & Scanners or Image Capture, HP Easy Scan or front-panel scanning is not currently supported in Catalina:

My iMac is still at Sierra 10.12.6.  It no longer recognizes the Officejet Pro as a scanner, though the printing works just fine.

Earlier today, I completed a multi-page scan job, and when I went on to the next one, it scanned one page, and then hung with an error message.

I performed the "Reset Printing System" procedure, and now it won't recognize the scanner at all.  I have also re-downloaded the Apple drivers (per the link in your message) and the HP printer firmware and easy-scan driver/software.  After all that, when I re-added the printer, the scan option was not added.  In the Printers & Scanners window at System Preferences page, only the printer is shown (and not even the "Print" button near the top where the "Scan" button should also be...).

I'm at a loss as to what to do next...??

Thank you.

@GRParker, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I understand you have scanning issues with the printer, to isolate the issue further I'd like to know the following-

Are you able to make photocopies on the printer?

What is the exact error message when you try to scan from the computer?

Did you make any changes to the printer or the computer recently?

Meanwhile, try using the HP Smart App to scan. Refer to the document HP Printers - Install and Use the HP Smart App (Mac)  for help. You can also refer to HP Printers - How to Scan (Mac) to learn about alternate scanning methods.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
