Dell Inspiron 3471
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Since I had a Windows 7 machine, I bought a new Dell Inspiron 3471.  I could find the printer function but not the scanner of my Envy 4520.  When the Dell technician tried to help me, a new update seem to be put on the Envy 4520.  The technician then put HP Smart on the Inspiron as the software interface.  While I now can connect to the scanner function, there is a major loss of functionality. The interface window is different and less friendly.  The interface does not allow me to use the autosize function I had before nor when I am finished with scanning one record, can I go back to scan the next without closing out of the scanner.  Also on the printer, it now is requiring I manually feed in sheets to print on both sides whereas that was automatic before.  Help.  I am a tech Luddite.  At this point, I feel like simply buy a new non-HP machine.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can you download and install the FULL featured printer software from HP for your operating system:

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920

Go to "Software Utility" and download and install the "HP ENVY 4520 series Print and Scan Driver and Accessories"

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

The Interface should be similar to what you have on Win 7.

Hope that helps.

I thought I had downloaded it, but when I look into Program files>HP>HP Envy 4520 series>bin>HP scan  I notice the date given for the file is 02/07/2020, the date the Dell technician tried to help me.  When I tell it to execute, I get a DeviceSetup.exe window.  When I reply yes, I get a window for "Device Setup & Software" with two choice  1) Connect new devices or 2)Reconfigure wireless settings.  2 does not seem to do anything.  What really gets me is that I just printed something without problem from Word, so there is a connection with the device, but the scan seems to respond only to the HP Smart.  Should I try uninstalling HP Smart? There is also something called HP Print &Scan Doctor now on my machine.  Should I run something on that?

Thank you so much. It was worrisome to uninstall but I was able to uninstall and reinstall from the link you sent.  I have got the old more friendly user interface back.  Now all I need to figure out is how to put an icon on my computer that allows me to go directly to the scanner mode.
