We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

My printer acts like it is scanning a document, but, there's nothing in it to be scanned.  And, the light in between the color and black and white scan options, keeps blinking.

If the (apparent self-scanning) action you describe is constant, that is, repeats quickly over and over and over, all the time, never stops, then, yes something is wrong.  Not sure what, but this is not normal behavior.

Steps 1 through 6 in this document are all acceptable to try:

Printer Turns Off Unexpectedly or Repeatedly

 

If the action you describe happens just every so often - once a day, maybe a couple of times more than that, then the printer might be completing self-maintenance to keep it ready to use. If that is the case, It is normal, it is OK, and it keeps the ink system happy.

 

Sleep Mode is mentioned in the User Guide, for example, on Page 19

NOTE the caveats to Auto-Off feature on Page 21

 

The "blinking light" might be the "Copy Ready" light.
