I keep getting the scanner error code 17 and it always asks me to restart the printer but, that never works. I can't do anything with the printer. If i try to print and error pops up saying its out of paper or there's a paper jam. Neither of those things are happening. And sometimes it will print 10 - 20 minutes later after giving me errors.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  
Scanner Error 17 indicates that the scanner motor is in the incorrect position. 

  • Turn the printer off, and on again, and then try the job again.
  • Observe the scan carriage during scanning and verify no internal objects, such as cables, are obstructing the scan head.
  • If the problem persists, replace the internal scan assembly or the formatter. Contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/support
