I turn on my laptop and it says, "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password"

I have read a lot of posts about this and I have not seen anything that helps me.

Can an expert please help?

The laptop is Pavilion dv5.

Thank you

Hi

The only option i see from my end is to reseat the CMOS Battery on your unit.

Thank you Manjunath for such prompt response.

How do I reseat the CMOS battery?

I have removed the battery pack and put it back several times and no help.

I have seen recommendations from HP support team asking users like me to try entering password 3 times and provide 5 digit or 8 digit code so they can provide password to try.

Won't such option work for me?

Hi

Allow the computer to sit without the battery for an hour, then reinstall the memory and hard drive, but leave the coin cell battery and the main battery out of the system. Connect the AC power adapter to the system and power it on to clear the BIOS password.

Ok, I did as you instructed but now I have a BIG problem!

When I put everything back and restarted the laptop, I keep getting "BOOTMGR is missing, Press ctr alt del to restart"

It doesn't matter what I did, I am getting same error!

Help!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

BOOTMGR Missing is an operating system file please check if you can try using F11 key and you can run a recovery or in case you have the disc you can reinstall OS. Hope this help you.
