microsoft office activations fails

HP Recommended
• HP Stream Notebook - 11-r014
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased an HP Stream Notebook that is supposed to include Microsoft Office 365.

I am trying to set it up but when I search "office" in the start menu I get two options, "Microsft Office" and "Get Office".

"Get Office" links to the play store where I can purchase it, there is no option to simply activate the subscription that is included with the computer.

"Microsoft Office" is an app that I can open. It tells me that the service is included with my pc and prompts me to activate it.

When I click "activate" nothing happens..... literally the window closes and no other window or prompt appears. I have tried it several times but the window closes without opening anything every single time.

I have seen a lot of people talking about missing activation codes, that is not my problem. My issue is even getting to a point where I can enter an activation code.  What is going on and how can I activate the copy of office that I was promised?

Thank you,

Sam
