42s

I have a 42s that works great and I have a lot of custom programs that I use daily.  Unfortunately, the + (plus) and - (minus) keys are not working right and I need to really press hard to get them to do thier function.  I really don't want to replace this calculator because of the programs so is there a place I can get it fixed?  I live in the Portland, Oregon area.  If it cannot be fixed, what is the upgrade for this?  I upgraded from the 41CV years ago and I am probably living in the dinasour era by still using this but I really like it and I am not too far from retirement so I am not too keen on learning a whole new system.  My programs deal with switching from US to metric, basic trig functions and converting from ft-in to decimal and back.

I hope to hear from someone soon about this.

If you needed replace, your HP42S, you can select from the model's ... HP35S, HP50G or, better, HP PRIME GRAPHING CALCULATOR. If decided HP50G, you have in the site www.hpcalc.org many programs and libraries.

Hi Alan If you have not solve this yet, it sound like all you need is a HP 35s , it is the only RPN Prog.  SCI calculator left today.

and there is a lot of programs for it. you can try it by downloading a emulator of it on your computer first, all the  others use different programming. The Hp 35 is not alphanumeric programming like the 41cx but still very advance RPN  programming it lets you use line numbers as GTO and EXQ commands. Just read about it and you can find emulators at many sites ,just do a search. sorry so late.

Hi,

Sometimes the problem is the rubber strip that pushes the keyboard connector strip against the circuit board. Because these calculators are getting old now, the rubber deteriorates. It is highlighted here:

Fixthatcalc is a one person business who works on these. Think it's still around $70-80 + shipping to have them redone.  The guy has figured out a way to disassemble the calculator safely.  Says usually the major malfunction is the keypad/springs, etc.
