Bootup stalls; error says issue with BFE service

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion 590
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Group,

When I power up, my HP stalls on boot-up; I get the black screen, the HP logo, and then nothing: the Windows "picture" never shows up.

According to the event viewer, I'm getting the following error: "a timeout was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the BFE service." Source: service control manager; Event ID 7011

I am running Windows 10 64 bit; my antivirus is McAfee LiveSafe; according to it, my firewall and security monitoring are all active.

My workaround has been to power down by pressing the power button; on restart I do not have that problem.

The problem will reoccur within the next several times I power up the computer.

Your advice would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Jeff

@hpinvegas Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the laptop stuck at the HP logo.

I have a few steps that should help,

Some HP Notebook PCs come with two sticks of memory and have two memory slots. If you experience a black screen or blue screen with HP logo, the problem could be with one of the sticks of memory or with one of the memory slots.

To determine what is causing the failure, try to isolate the problem by:

  • Performing a memory self-test

  • Checking for loose memory modules

  • Testing the memory modules

  • Testing the memory slots
