Why have Google and HP abandoned HP Slate users?

 

As per my earlier requests, please could you an .apk link for standard Android browser for HP tablets - at least this would ease the inbuilt dependency on Chrome - which is no longer working..

 

You'll see from the thread that resets and fixes to date have not worked, so this looks to be something fundamental to Chrome on HP Salte devices ONLY. Please fix?

Why can't HP and Google just accept they've got a problem? And then do something about it! I need Google Chrome on my HP Slate 10HD. My next tablet won't be an HP.

Update: 11 days later and still no contact or resolution for promised investigation. Very poor HP. As a former employee, I am saddened and embaressed at the poor response this fundamental issue is receiving. I remain a passionate advocate for HP, but the performance here is so disappointing. Like others in this forum, I can only see a move away from HP as the obvious conclusion to this failure to resolve. Very sad.

I searched for this problem and came across this thread and now know why I was able to find my hp slate7 hd at a thrift store! I guess I will be seeing more in the future as nobody is replying to this issue! Is this tablet garbage now since Chrome keeps crashing or can I download something different to use instead? I still have 8 days to return this. Any reply is appreciated!

You're right HP customer support is non-existant. I am using firefox but if I was you I would take it back, the only use is in the bin.

Yes, definitely return it. HP has not made any effort to resolve this problem.

I figured out how to stop Chrome from crashing but am not sure if this is good or not by uninstalling updates.  

 

  • my settings,
  • apps,
  • Chrome,
  • uninstall updates  

It then says: All updates to this Android system app will be uninstalled.  

  • ok

Says: Do you want to replace this app with the factory version?

  • ok

I now have version 36.0.1985.135 which works great without any crashes so it solved my issue but again, not sure if this is a good thing or not. It works so I am happy with it. 

Hope this helps someone else to solving this issue.
