For the past maybe two weeks, my laptop screen will turn black and then change the resolution at a random interval.

At first I thought it was my graphics card's driver (I have Intel graphics hd 520), so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver but the problem persisted.

I had the display/Screen Resolution menu opened and watched as it changed the display device from "1. Mobile PC Display" to "1|2 Display". It keeps alternating between the two. So I think that maybe its detecting a new display device?

I went to the device manager and checked the monitors tab and it is displaying "Generic Non-PnP Monitor" and "Generic Pop Monitor".

I'm not sure how to fix this issue, if anyone could help, it would be much appreciated.
