HP Pen 1MR94AA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Pen (1MR94AA) is not connecting/working with my HP Envy x360 Convertible Laptop and I have already viewed the support link: https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c05166879

My pen is listed as compatible with my laptop.

It is also not a stylus as it uses an AAAA Battery to power it.

The instructions say "Turn on the pen by tapping the tip to any surface", but it never activated.

Please help, or I'm going to return this pen, and I really don't want to do that.

Things that are the HP Pen

First, find the computer's exact Model name:

HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Next, search the document for a compatible stylus:

HP PCs - Touchscreen Compatibility with Pen and Stylus

If there is an HP Active Stylus available for your model, it should be included in the document.

Additional information can be found in Advisory Documents.

If you have not done so, try / consider:

Install the pen driver

Drivers

  • Not all stylus models require drivers.
  • In general, the “latest” (newer) version of the driver is likely better.
  • If unsure about the driver version, and if more than one version of the driver is listed, start with the older version – update the driver if / as needed.
  • If you wish, read the Information file(s) for the driver.
  • Pen Device Information (if / as available) might be available in the Device Manager
  1. Device Manager > View “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
  2. Open category Human Interface Devices
  3. Look for and Right-Click on “HID-compliant pen” > Properties
  4. Tab Details > Under Property, Select “Hardware ids”

HP Pen Driver – Version 2.0.0.26

NOTES

  • The stylus document is updated as new information becomes available
  • Correct stylus not working? Check computer’s Software and Driver Page for a relevant firmware update.

I tried to install the driver, I installed all the new updates and I still couldn't use the pen with my screen.  I checked my model number and it is the 15t-aq000 of the HP Envy x360 Convertible Laptop.

Is there any hope, or should I just return the pen?

Thank you for your help but some step-by-step instructions would be helpful.

There are seven "Envy x360 15-" models listed, none of which are a match in the Compatibility Document .

If this is your computer model:

HP ENVY x360 - 15t-aq000 CTO (ENERGY STAR)

then (at this writing), there is not a matching stylus for your computer.

Although a poor substitute (and it does NOT act like a stylus), if you just want to open menus / programs and the like, consider a Passive Stylus that requires not much more than a usable touch screen.

____________________________________________________________________

Passive Pen / Stylus

If you do not find an active pen listed for your computer, consider the "passive" pen as mentioned in the stylus document.

Reminders:

  • Passive pen is not the same thing as an active stylus.
  • Passive pen does not act like an art pencil.
  • Passive pen does not interact with Windows Ink.
  • Passive pen can operate the desktop -- open icons, menus, activate programs.
  • Passive pen does not have a battery nor does it contain any electronics used to interface with the screen.
  • Capacitive / Passive pen tips are "fat" to allow the pen to cover enough of the screen area to activate the "touch".  (See article below for actual terms and definitions.)
  • Use your favorite search engine -- search for "active stylus versus capacitive stylus"
