HP envy Battery issues

HP Recommended
HP Envy

My HP Envy is having battery issues. When the battery is inserted and plug in through the charger, the battery is used for power and the cord is not resupplying the battery. When the battery is removed and the laptop is still plugged it, it functions due to the fact that the cord is now working. When the battery is inserted and plugged in and the laptop is turned off, the battery will charge. How do i fix this?
