Not to confuse the issue, I was comparing the 5901 and 5909 HP Stream 8 tablets. Both have 4g capability. I did not mention the 5801 in my post.
The original poster of the topic did. In the opening thread you'll see a link for a 5801 that implies that it has 4g, and the 5801 retails for the same price that Amazon currently has the 5901 on sale for. I was just pointing it out to try to make sure no one followed that link and thought they could get a 5801 for $150 and it would have 4g.

I can attest that the 5801 does not have the SIM port that BestBuy sells, I returned it and got the 5901 from Amazon for $150 which was actually cheaper! Since I'm already a TMobile customer I tiered the data with my phone's plan.

I was concerned the T-Mobile 4G might be too good to be true, and I decided I wanted the 'we will make it right' policy that the Microsoft Store offers and so I bought the 5909 ($180 - I mis spoke about it being $170). It's a great device (from what I can tell with less than an hour of use). T-Mobile installed quickly and easily - so my concerns were not founded. My recommendation to anyone else is to weigh walk-in service from Microsoft Store vs better price on Amazon. Thanks.

Hi, I was just chatting with an HP rep who told me that the Stream 8 was not unlocked. But you are saying that it is...
That is incorrect, at least from the devices I've seen. The device is not locked. I've used SIM cards from T-Mobile, AT&T, Claro, and Movistar in mine without issues.
One thing to note is that the marketing about 4G seems to be completely incorrect. The modem in the 5901 (K4F55UA) is only capable of HSPA+, a 3G technology, and the modem can't see or use LTE or WiMax (4G) protocols. You can verify that yourself by running "netstat mbn show capability *" and checking the "data class" field displayed. I've read tech docs which imply that the 5909 models are capable of LTE, but I haven't examined one in person to test that yet.

Thanks for the info for Stream 8 5901 and 5909. But I am not a tech savy person and after reading the forum I am really confused. Please help me decide which tablet will be better for a Nana with little tech knowledge.
