hp 22er monitor, new Hp laptop, WINDOWS 10 October update,

I'm stumped. It doesn't take much, I'm not very tech savvy.

New HP laptop,  15-db0011dx 

Older monitor (2016),   HP22er

everything was fine.  got a message to download Windows 10 October update. 

Now not so fine.. The hp22er monitor is blank.  it also is not listed as a device on the laptop's menu. the only device was  "Generic PnP Monitor" and i unthinkingly removed it.

through upplugging and replugging in wires i saw a screen on the monitor (Yes, it is plugged in and operating, the screen is just blank)  indicating that the "HDMI 1 Inactive"  

I'm guessing that this is the key but i don't know what to do are where to go to find answers.

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

   

2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

   

3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows has all the latest updates

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.
