Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, backlit light is not working on the keyboard.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it was working fine?

Were there any recent hardware/software changes?

Please try these steps to turn on a Backlit keyboard:

To check whether your particular model has a backlit keyboard, check the F5 key to see if the backlit keyboard key  is present.

For other older notebook computers with a backlit keyboard, try one of the following methods depending on your model, to turn the backlit keyboard on or off.

  • If the spacebar has a keyboard icon on the left side, press and hold the Function key (Fn) and then tap the spacebarone time.

  • Press the F12 key.

  • Press the F5 key.

If the issue persists, continue with next steps:

Step 1: Power Drain

3. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

4. Remove the battery from the battery compartment.

5. Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

6. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.

7. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

Step 2: Test your keyboard in BIOS environment

If your keyboard is not working:

  1. Shut down the computer and restart.
  2. Press the Esc key repeatedly to see if a startup menu opens.
    • If a setup menu does not open, the integrated keyboard hardware is not working. The integrated keyboard in the notebook should be serviced or replaced. To continue using the notebook PC, connect a USB-wired keyboard to a USB port and restart the computer. Contact HP Customer Support for further assistance.

    • If a setup menu opens, use the arrow keys to navigate the menus. If these keys are

Step 3: Uninstall and reinstall keyboard device in Device Manager
