I've given up, none of these suggestions works.
I've tried:
- All button presses for minutes at a time
- Charge from original charger
- Charge from mobile charger
- Charge from PC
- Charge from car
- Connect to PC - No device shown on USB
Nothing. Totally dead.
I might look on ebay for one with a smashed screen, and swap the screen and HDD across.

Call it a lucky guess but using the original power supply and cord connected to my TP via the micro USB port, unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in in an attempt to reset any logic in said pwr supply, BAM! The multiboot menu ( WebOS, CyanogenMod, etc) appeared without any of the button combo voodoo mentioned above. In case this matters, the TP was also sitting in the TouchStone (easel style) stand. The stand was not powered at the time.
I also booted into WebOS afterwards, and verified the battery state, it was at 100% as I expected. I had previously shut down while charging in the stand in Droid OS while in locked or password challenge display using the side power button.
Bottom line, reset everything.
