I will tell you what I did for customers when I had my computer shop.

I had many laptops brought in that had stuff spilled on them. The only fix is one you will not want to hear. The laptop must be taken totally apart down to every single part. The parts separated and each soaked for several hours in an bath of rubbing alcohol, at least 80% proof. Even the motherboard. If someone post that is a bad idea ignore them. I did it all the time and it is an inside trick of OEM companies I learned it from the OEM company I worked for,

But short of that it was nail polish REMOVED, that product is designed to EAT stuff off. Once that got past the keyboard and inside I doubt the components survived. I hate to say it but I think you have a paperweight. I will pull what you can, the hard drive, RAM etc and scrap the rest.

omg so ur saying my laptop is gonna stop working,.? my sister had all her school work on it and she is almost done i’m shaking i don’t know what to do

So then you need to try to clean it.

I do want to say this, in the future I would not do anything while using the laptop. At the OEM company I worked for we could never refer to a Notebook as a Laptop because too many customers used them for dinner trays, coffee holders and places to hold their nail polish.

Okay first things first, you have to remove the Battery, DO NOT work on this with the battery connected.

2) No your sisters school work is not lost, the hard drive can be removed and connected to another computer to save all the data.

3) Once you have the battery removed, remove the keyboard

Under the keyboard will be a heat shield, look it over GOOD for spilled polish remover, use rubbing alcohol to remove. Please don's use a cotton ball as they will leave behind little shreds. A blush brush is an excellent tool, dip in the alcohol and brush on. The second best tool a cloth brand new baby diaper, or a pair of brand new boys or mens underwear, they are 100% brushed cotton and that is what your after.

Also clean the underside of the keyboard.

As a help, draw on a piece of paper the area of the laptop you are working on and then tape each screw on the paper where it goes in the laptop.

Now if you see polish remover under the metal heatshield under the keyboard you have a bigger problem. But the sound of it it sounds like you spilled it near the power button, so clean that area as well. Everywhere you spilled clean with alcohol. Fill the brush or tip of cloth, don't be afraid to use the alcohol and do not wipe if dry, let it air dry. Don't pour the alcohol in, just use it freely on the cloth or brush. But remove that battery first, and do not leave it plugged in.

Do you best to clean every part you can.

Now flip it over and start taking off EVERY little door, they cover the RAM, Hard Drive, WiFI etc. look in there and look good, clean it regardless, use the brush loaded with alcohol and clean.

Now after you have done your best to get to every part, leave it apart over night and let it air dry.

DO NOT use water, soap, bleach or anything else to clean it with.

The day after put it back together and try to turn it on.

If it does not power on, the entire thing must be disassembled and cleaned.

But remember this is a last effort. It was nail polish REMOVER that stuff eats stuff.

i did what u told me earlier and thank you so much but the power on button turned on and off but the screen won’t turn on i need a reply before tmw plz

I do this as a volunteer on my free time, so I can't be asked to reply on a deadline.

It sounds like you spilled it on the video connector to the motherboard. If you still have the keyboard off see if you can follow the video cable from the LCD to where it goes under the heatshield to the motherboard. It will be tucked tight in out of the way places. If you can't get to the place on the motherboard where it connects then it will need to be disassembled more.

Here is something very important. A laptop uses ribbon connectors, very small and tiny, they are made of plastic. Nail Polish Removed WILL eat this plastic and the traces (copper cables) inside them, If you can see any flat small ribbon cables see if the appear "melted" if they do then I would consider the laptop a loss.

(To other Techs. I was trained in phone tech support to use terms the user can best relate to. I was trained not to use "Complex Tech terms and talk over a users head) so my use of terms is best suited for the end user not to be tech correct.)

Tasana Studios   That was an excellent set of replies to the unfortunate polish-remover spiller. Well done!
