Doing an update and restart

Last night I was trying to let my laptop do an update. After a little while it said “update could not be completed. Undoing changes do not close computer” so I did not do anything then it went to my Home Screen so I closed my laptop. Today when I try to get on it will not let me sign in. Tells me my password is wrong even after changing my password. In the corner of my screen it has a power button icon and it only gives the option to sleep, update and shut down or update and restart. But I do both of the last two and nothing happens. I use this computer for college classes and I don’t know what to do.
