I posted about this problem a year ago but nobody could help.  I then searched the Internet like crazy and eventually found a solution on Reddit, but it only worked for a little while, so I'm back.

The problem is that after I set up my fingerprint in Windows Hello, the system will remember for it for a short while (meaning, I can logon using the fingerprint reader on my laptop just fine), but then after 3 logons or so, I get the message "Fingerprint couldn't be recognized.  Try using a different finger."  It then tells me that I must logon using my PIN.

If I want to use the fingerprint reader again, I need to re-enter my fingerprint in Windows Hello.  But again, it only works for a little while (maybe 3 logons), and then the system seems to forget it, displaying the message "Your fingerprint couldn't be recognized," and again forcing me to logon with my PIN.  I've tried entering different fingerprints and also entering the same fingerprint twice, but nothing works.  The system keeps forgetting/not recognizing my fingerprint.

I gave up searching for a solution for a while, hopeful that the Windows 11 update would resolve it (of course, in the meantime, the one-year warranty on my laptop expired), but it did not.

I am desperate for any help, if anyone is out there ???

Thanks!
