the notebook is dead but i need to get the windows key to use on another laptop. How do I go about getting that.

Hi:

 

The Windows product key is in the BIOS of the PC.

 

Microsoft has all PC manufacturers put the product key in the BIOS since Windows 8 was released back in 2012.

 

No more product key stickers.

 

This was done to prevent exactly what you want to do...transfer a Windows OEM product key to another PC which is in violation of the Windows software licensing rules.

 

I have attached the Microsoft OEM software licensing rules below.
