HP Z800 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I recently purchased a second CPU for my HP Z800 Workstation; an Intel Xeon X5660 Hex Core CPU processor (2.80GHZ) which is identical to my first (current) CPU.

This is my issue: After installing the second CPU and heat sink correctly, the PC turns on but doesn’t boot (screen stays black)… however the fans spin very loudly, and about 7 or so seconds later, they spin even more ferociously.

It should also be noted that when this happens, my memory (RAM) fans turn slightly, only for a second and then they stop turning completely.

So, what is the problem here exactly? (And please explain it like I’m 5, I’m somewhat inexperienced).

I have seen answers like:

  1. “Reset CMOS”
  2. “Update BIOS”
  3. “Completely discharge/power down PC”

but I’m not sure what the right answer is.

Thanks for reading and I greately appreciate your help!
