HP z440 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Please bear with me. It’s been a while since I’ve been on here and I may have forgotten some of the rules, I am after all 72. You guys have helped me out with my z400 and my z440 in the past. I just bought a 75” Samsung Q90 4k 2160p TV and a Q90 soundbar to go with it. I’m using my z440 to stream video and watch recorded 2160p movies. I can sit in my recliner and watch and brows to my heart’s content. My z440 now has 96GB of RAM that only runs a 1866Mhz.

My CPU is an 8 Core E5-1680V4 3.40GHz Bus Speed 0 GT/s 0 QPI Links 140W. I recently came across a gamming web site that recommended the 10 Core E5-2687WV3 3.10GHz Bus Speed 9.6 GT/s 2 QPI Links 160W.

Now I don't know what “9.6 GT/s 2 QPI Links” means, but it sure looks better than “0 GT/s 0 QPI Links.” Is that the specification that keeps my CPU and memory from functioning at rated speed? If so, wouldn’t an upgrade to the 10 core be a substantial upgrade even with the slightly lower clock? Would I need to upgrade my heatsink as well?
