650 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

As usual, hoping someone can help. 🙂

I have an HP 650 G1 notebook with Switchable graphics. Previously the system was working fine with Windows 7 64bit. I've recently replaced the hard disk with a new installation of Windows 10 (this is not an upgrade) and attempted to install all the drivers from your website for this model and Windows 10 64bit.

Issue 1: The AMD driver downloaded from your website (15.201.1301 Rev. F 14 Sep 2015) fails to install with error message "CATALYST Install Manager has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program". Event viewer detail below.

I have therefore downloaded and installed the latest driver from the AMD website which seems to work ok.

Issue 2: Switchable graphics causing laptop to freeze or blue screen when booted up with power connected, then power removed. If the laptop boots up on battery then the graphics switch as expected without crashing when power is connected, disconnected, reconnected.

I believe this relates to a problem starting the Intel driver when the laptop is connected to mains power:

  • If I boot up the laptop on battery both the AMD and Intel display adapters show as working properly and display switching works fine when power is connected, removed, reconnected, and so on.
  • If I boot up the laptop on mains power or on it's docking station, the AMD adapter shows as working properly, but the Intel adapter shows as stopped "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". If I undock the laptop or disconnect the mains power the screen will go black and the laptop will freeze, or a blue screen error will display ("REFERENCE_BY_POINTER", "0x00000018", "ffffe002`045be070", "00000000`00000006","ffffffff`ffffffff", "FLTMGR.SYS","5816")
  • I have tried the latest Intel display drivers from their website and by using the driver update utility but the same problem persists.
  • This includes fully uninstalling all previous versions of both AMD and Intel drivers, trying installing Intel First then AMD, and AMD first then Intel, and also tried installing with power connected, without power connected, laptop docked on docking station, the same problem persists whichever combination I use.
