Have not been able to add another comment in the previous thread (Brightness keys not working in Linux)...

New workaround (needed, as one of the more recent updates combines the standard PS2 driver and the hotkey support in one keyboard driver installation inf-file...):

* In Windows Computer Management, System Tools/Device Manager/Keyboards: find the keyboard driver entry.

+ Update the driver via "Browse my computer for drivers" and "let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" -> select the "Standard PS/2 Keyboard" driver.

+ In the "Details" tab, find the Hardware ID and copy the second line to the clip board for later use.

* In Local Group Policy Editor, Computer Configuration/Administrative Tools/System/Device Installation/Device Installation Restrictions: open "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs.

+ Move radio button to "Enabled"

+ Klick the "Show" button and paste the device ID from the step above.

- Do NOT check "Also apply matching devices that are already installed! (otherwise, you should have a spare USB-keyboard at hand).

* After reboot update the BIOS to a new version (or the last version installed, which I can find in one of the folders in C:\SWsetup).

I still would appreciate any information/documentation on the needed keyboard settings (done by any driver) undoing the changes, the windows driver applies... (All comments from the previous thread remain unchanged so far.)
