Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

TL;DR

The power socket on my Elitebook 1030 x360 G2 is damaged (the little plastic barrel inside the socket is broken).  HP want ~£500 to repair despite the unit being under warranty.  The laptop can be powered (and presumably charged?) through the USB-C port - is this safe to continue using the laptop like this?

HP claim the that the damage is 'accidental' and this is not covered under warranty.  I don't think that damage caused by using the products in the manner that they're intended should be classed as accidental.  I asked support to escalate and I got 2 emails, one saying they'd received my complaint and another saying I had to pay;  at no point did anyone ask me anything.  Is HP support really this bad?
