Further to the previous post, https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Printer-exercising-the-mech...

I paid for a call with HP Support about why the HP 7720 spent 1–2 mins between every page buzzing, clicking, and cycling back and forth before printing. They were very patient, and had me do a partial reset in addition to the full factory reset I had already done. But it makes no difference: the printer still performs the full calibration cycle between every page and every job.

The problem dates from the auto firmware update last October (2020), and has not been fixed in the recent (Jan/Feb 2021) firmware update, but because the support staff are unable to pass the problem up the chain to an actual engineer, the firmware people are unaware that they have shipped a broken version.

For reference, there is a video of the failure here: http://silmaril.ie/downloads/hp-7720-long-delays-before-printing.mp4
