Envy 5010
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I have an Envy 5010 sitting on the same desk as my Apple Mac and three feet from the wifi router. Firstly: most of the HP software that came with it DOES NOT work with Apple (this has been confirmed by HP support some months ago), so I've had to use other programmes to get it to print. Problem is: it doesn't. I'm currently 'waiting for printer' despite the fact that my Apple software has detected the printer and I've highlighted it in the drop-down menu, but it won't even go as far as an overview scan. I've given up the intended scan and tried printing out urgently needed travel tickets just now, but I'm still 'waiting for printer'. After thirty minutes of waiting, and restarting both computer and printer, I've come on here for help.

After yet another restart - now 45 minutes since I first tried - it has printed, but is waiting 'for job to complete' even though I've got the fully printed page in my hand for the last five minutes - in fact it now seems to have dropped connection, the Apple has lost it completely.

I just don't know what more to do. I have a good wifi signal all over the house, Internet is good, all other programmes work as they should, but the printer just won't play along. Any ideas?
