I have an HP Scanjet G 4050 that is capable of viewing 16 photo slides at a time. After many years, I finally tried it. What I got is 16 images on my computer screen; each then has to be enclosed by a rectangle – and actually scanned. What I ended up with on my desktop are 16 jpeg images that are as small as the slides themselves. At that size, one cannot tell what one is seeing on the slide; it is too small. So, what is the purpose of scanning slides, anyway?
I naively thought, when I purchased the scanner, that I would be able to scan my slide and arrange them into albums that I could at least view on my computer screen in as large a size as my big Mac screen allows. I also thought that I could then burn the album to a DVD disc that I could view on my TV – and see pictures that are as large as my large TV screen. I find that the scanned images, being as small as they are, are useless.
To enlarge the images, even a tiny bit, renders them distorted and indistinct. The only way to see them beautifully enlarged is to view them the old way - through a projector and onto a silver screen. But, my projector died and I sold my old folding screen.
So what now? Toss the slides in the trash?
