Product: HP laserjet Pro P1109w

My printer was working fine with my previous MacBook.  I have a new Mac Airbook and attached the printer to it vis USB (as always).  I can see the printer listed, when I try to print the printer icon shows up in the dock and says it is printing. Then disappears. When I access the printer to check if the printing is stalled it tells me the print job is done, but the printer shows a status of idle.

 

I have un installed and re-installed printer.  There are no updates for printer software available or that MAC will accept. I have tried Apple Support, HP has no live support for expired warranty but I have followed every direction possible.

The printer does print out a test page when I reboot the printer but will not print from the MAC

How do I get the printer off idle?
