No match for Windows ID

HP Recommended

Last night, I was completing the upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on my new HP computer.  It got to the screen requiring that I enter the Windows product number.  I did, copying it from the label pasted on the side of the machine (several times).  Each time, the message replied that the Windows product code was not a valid code.

Now What?

1. make sure didn't mistake 0-O 2-Z, etc.

2. which version of Vista is this, home basic? Not all versions of Vista upgradable, Microsoft upgrade disc only supports:

  • Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate
